Live captions and translation for anything on your phone

Caption Flow writes out what’s being said in any app, on calls and in the room around you, and translates the subtitles on your screen. It’s free on Android, and offline options keep everything on your phone.

Read every word, as it’s spoken

Live Caption listens to the sound playing on your phone, or to your microphone, and writes it out in a caption box that floats over whatever you’re doing. Use it for videos without subtitles, calls and meetings, lectures, or the conversation across the table.

  • Captions any app’s audio, or your microphone
  • Runs offline on your phone, or online for faster, more accurate captions
  • AI captioning labels who’s speaking and keeps up when people talk over each other
  • Keeps a text transcript on your phone if you want one

Watch anything in your language

Live Translate reads the subtitles in the part of the screen you choose and shows the translation right underneath. Follow a show that only has subtitles in another language, a game, or a clip in your feed.

  • Works over video apps, games and social feeds
  • Free offline translation, or Google Translate for better quality
  • Reads Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Devanagari scripts
  • Only the area you choose is read, and text is extracted on your phone

Double-tap a word to learn it

Language Learning Mode turns the caption overlay into a dictionary. Double-tap any word to see what it means, then save it to your vocabulary list. Your words stay with your account, ready to review. It’s part of Premium.

Start from any app, in one tap

A small bubble waits at the edge of your screen. Tap it to start Live Caption or Live Translate without leaving the app you’re in, or translate everything on the screen at once, right over the original text. Drag it anywhere, or turn it off.

140+ languages, or let AI detect it

Google captioning covers more than 140 languages: pick the one being spoken. AI captioning works out the language on its own, labels speakers, and can translate while it captions.

Works offline, right on your phone

Download a speech model once and captions keep working on a plane, underground, or anywhere you’d rather not send audio over the internet. Choose fastest, balanced or higher accuracy.

    Bring your own subtitle file

Subtitle Overlay plays an SRT file in a box you can drag over any app, with controls to nudge the timing until it lines up. Keep your own language on in the video app, play a second language from the file, and read both at once.

    Questions and answers

    Is Caption Flow free?

Yes. The free plan includes on-device Live Caption, offline translation, Live Translate, Subtitle Overlay and one-tap screen translation from the floating bubble. Sign in and you also get a monthly allowance of Google captioning. Free shows ads. Premium adds AI captioning, more Google captioning time, Language Learning Mode and no ads.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Download an offline speech model once and Live Caption runs entirely on your phone, with no connection needed. Live Translate can also translate offline. Online captioning is there when you want faster, more accurate results.

    Which apps can it caption?

Live Caption can listen to audio from most apps on Android 10 and later, including video players, social apps, podcasts and browsers. Some apps don't allow other apps to capture their sound. For those, switch the audio source to your microphone, which also works for calls on speaker and for people talking near you.

Does Caption Flow record or keep my audio?

No. With offline captioning, audio never leaves your phone. With online captioning, audio is sent securely to the captioning service you picked to be turned into text, and Caption Flow doesn't store it. Transcripts are saved as text on your phone only, and you can delete them anytime. The privacy policy has the details.

What's the difference between Google captioning and AI captioning?

Google captioning covers more than 140 languages, and you choose the language being spoken. AI captioning is the most accurate option: it detects the language by itself, labels different speakers, handles people talking over each other, and can translate as it captions. AI captioning is part of Premium.

Can I use it with streaming apps?

Live Translate works over most video apps, games and social feeds. Some streaming apps protect their screen, so captured frames come out blank and there's nothing to read. In that case, download a subtitle file for the show and play it with Subtitle Overlay, which sits on top of any app.

    Which Android versions are supported?

Caption Flow runs on Android 7.0 and later. Captioning the sound from other apps needs Android 10 or later; on older versions, Live Caption uses the microphone.

How do I cancel Premium or delete my account?

Subscriptions are managed in Google Play, where you can cancel anytime. To delete your account and the data linked to it, follow the steps on the account deletion page.
